It is refreshing to have multidimensional characterization in a science fiction series production
The meticulous and brilliantly crafted set of the Silo is complemented by exceptional acting, especially from Rebecca Ferguson. It is a true achievement to make the sense of age and ruined social stratification in the Silo vividly real.
I hope the second season brings together such talented production values, acting, and writing
Being based on a good book doesn’t always guarantee a good movie or series, but in this case the series is an outstanding achievement in itself. Rebecca Ferguson is outstanding in this movie, as she is in Dune 2 and it will be worth it.
Tim Robbins brings Bernard Holland’s character to life brilliantly

Two young religious women get caught up in a game of cat and mouse in a strange man’s house. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East in Heretic, plus more modern women murdering the horror game. Hugh Grant once said in an interview "I’m tired of playing obvious roles and typing" – Writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods saw this interview and wrote Mr. Mr. Reed is stabbed in the neck with a letter opener, which he then pulls out. This causes blood to seep onto his hands, clothes, the floor… but later in the basement there is little evidence of it near the trapdoor. Just Like a Butterfly (Caught in the Rain) Performed by Ipana Troubadours Written by Harry M. Woods (as Harry Woods) and Mort Dixon Published by Callicoon Music (ASCAP), Bienstock Publishing Company obo Redwood Music Ltd. (PRS), Warner Chappell Music Ltd. (PRS) Courtesy of Columbia Records Under arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment (Canada). If, like me, you saw this film because you wanted to see Hugh Grant play a creepy villain, you won’t be disappointed. Heretic is the story of two young Mormons who visit the house of Mr. Reed, played by Hugh Grant. However, things are not what they seem. Outside the gate, you meet the 2 Mormons, Sister Barnes, played by Sophie Thatcher, and Sister Paxton, played by Chloe East. Personally, I came to this film for the Hugh Grant show, but these 2 actresses held their own and both gave great performances.
Now for Mr
Since this movie is really only 3 characters, it’s important that 2/3 of the cast deliver, and they do! I would say that Sophie Thatcher’s character, Sister Barnes, is the deeper of the two Mormons, and the more experienced of the 2. Chloe East’s character, Sister Paxton, who is the newer missionary who feels more like a believer than a companion and is eager to convert and spread the word of God. Both of their performances consist mainly of being terrified of Mr. Reed, and thankfully neither of them fall into the dumb protagonist trope. Reed, played by Hugh Grant. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly how well Hugh Grant plays this character. Because the way he acts isn’t creepy or scary in any way. It’s more about the context that makes Mr. Reed creepy.
Which he is
His dialogue is so calm, and in a way, it’s like he’s giving a lecture. He tries to educate and enlighten the 2 Mormons. Just as Mr. Reed gave me the ick, he speaks to you with contempt. That and the fact that we are in a strange, haunted house with lights on a timer and the ceiling dripping. Mr. Reed is not feeling well! I mentioned the dialogue above. Writers/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods wrote Heretic beautifully. They give each character their own identity through their dialogue.
The sound design was simple yet effective
Heretic had great cinematography with effective use of close-ups and panning shots. The creaking floorboards, dripping, and the sound of old metal locks and doors really nail the idea that this is an old, rustic house. This is a spoiler-free review now, so I won’t go into too much detail about that part. , but one aspect of the film that I wish they had explored more was the idea of the labyrinth. The figures and the model labyrinth are featured on the poster and in the film’s trailer, but they’re not that prominent in the film. So if you were expecting a labyrinth-like horror film, I’d be disappointed. That said, the set was pretty minimal, not much to discuss. But what was there was simple and effective.

Like most 80s kids, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’d be lying if I said this was the direction I desperately wanted new Star Wars content to take. I mean, after being disappointed by the sequel trilogy and so many others – all of Disney’s live-action content except for Andor, Rogue One, and the first two Mando series – I’d rate this somewhere between average and bad – I’m just hungry for quality, epic, mature Star Wars content. Give me an Andor-type series set in the Old Republic with Jedi, Sith, and Nick Gillard as a stunt coordinator for the lightsaber duels.
HOWEVERto be fair, Skeleton Crew is okay
It’s not offensive or poorly made; it’s not blatantly cheap like The Book of Boba Fett; it’s not aimless like Mando season 3; it’s not a break from the story like the sequel and Kenobi; It’s not tone-deaf like the Acolyte. Hooray? It’s basically Star Wars Goonies, a cute little story about a group of kids having an adventure in the Star Wars universe.
So far so good
The writing is decent so far (from episode 2): the effects, costumes, and locations are excellent: there’s a certain charm to the whole thing. I think this, like Andor, is a passion project for its creators and the higher-ups saw it as a minor side project so they didn’t bother to get involved, which is a blessing at Lucasfilm these days. 7.5/10..

Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a private investigator and becomes a mole in a secret investigation in a nursing home.. Based on the chilean documentary "El Agente Topo".
Tasked with solving a jewelry theft, Charles finds himself fumbling through undercover work, ultimately discovering unexpected connections with the quirky residents around him
Ted Danson’s enduring charisma shines in A Man on the Inside , a heartwarming blend of comedy and mystery from The Good Place creator Michael Schur. The series introduces Charles (Danson), a lonely, retired widower who reinvigorates his monotonous life by taking on a private investigator role in a posh retirement community.
The series delights with its intricate whodunit, but its real treasure lies in the relationships that unfold
The show deftly balances humor and poignancy, using Danson’s impeccable timing and an ensemble of veteran actors like Sally Struthers and Stephen McKinley Henderson to create a vibrant, multilayered narrative. It’s a celebration of second chances and human connection, gently addressing themes like aging, grief, and reinvention without losing its comedic charm.Based on the Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent, Schur’s latest venture mirrors the philosophical warmth of his previous works while carving its own identity.
From Charles' evolving bond with his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) to his reluctant friendships with fellow residents, the characters are endearing and nuanced
While it lacks the surreal humor of The Good Place, A Man on the Inside captivates with its sincerity, offering both laughter and heartfelt moments. Danson’s effortless portrayal of Charles anchors the series, making it a must-watch for anyone seeking a comedic exploration of life’s later stages.
